Bregenz Festival: Verdi’s Aida
Bridging ancient Egypt with the US today, this staging by Graham Vick unfolds at the Bregenz Festival’s outdoor stage. Carlo Rizzi leads the Vienna Symphony and a cast that includes soprano Tatiana Serjan as Aida.
Bregenz Festival: Puccini’s Madama Butterfly
Puccini’s popular opera tells the story of a Japanese geisha and her tragic love for an American lieutenant. The venue for this new production is the floating stage at Bregenz on the Austrian shore of Lake Constance.
Bregenz Festival: Verdi’s Rigoletto
Verdi’s masterpiece—disturbing yet compelling and beautiful—is an opera of extremes, staged at Austria’s Bregenz Festival as both a circus-like spectacle and an intimate chamber drama on the world’s largest floating stage.
Arena di Verona: Puccini’s La bohème
Verona’s Roman amphitheater hosts a staging of Puccini’s beloved opera, which was inspired by tales of bohemian life in 19th-century Paris. The story follows a group of artists and the ill-fated love of the seamstress Mimì.
Arena di Verona: Bizet’s Carmen
The Arena di Verona revives Franco Zeffirelli’s legendary 1995 production of Bizet’s masterpiece about a headstrong young woman of Seville. This performance features mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča in the title role.
